Did you know we offer DNS support for Google App’s?

 

Google App’s offers the ability to have a calendar, mail, and contacts sync ‘d between all your different devices, wirelessly. So you could put an appointment in your blackberry, and the appointment would also show in your iphone and calendar of your home PC.

 

Your hosting remains unaffected, and your email address doesn’t change.

 

The standard edition is free, and it supports up to 50 email accounts. Our DNS update charge is £2.99. Or you can do it yourself for free, if your domain is hosted with us. If your domain isn’t hosted with us and you have email only with us we will setup the DNS for £3.99.

 

However we do offer a full setup of Google App’s account for a £20 one off free, this will cover the following.

Setup of all the new accounts with google (up to 20 email boxes and Calendars)

DNS change

Migration of your email from our servers to google (IMAP only) as you would have downloaded on pop3.

 

Google App’s supports Blackberry, iphone, and numerous symbian devices as well as your PC at home.

Wordpress MU wildcard DNS Support

wpmuDid you know we support wildcard DNS support? This means that if you wanted to run multiple blog’s from one installation you can. This allows you to have blog.mydomain.com, blog2.mydomain.com etc. You can also have full domains mapped to your sub domains so they look like different sites. Each blog can have its own theme and content.

 

Please be aware that this cannot be used as a reseller package as it breaks our T&C’s also the other customers would have no email addresses as the domain would be mapped to you. We do not offer support on scripts, but there is lots of information out there on Wordpress MU. If you get stuck drop us a ticket, and we will always try to help.

FTP Auto-Lock

warningWe’re posting this inportant update to  let you know in advance of a new development that we will be rolling out to the Hosting control panel from the 15th February.

Over the last year there has been a substantial increase in the number of sites on the internet that have been hacked due to viruses that steal FTP credentials from user’s home computers. The hackers then use these credentials to insert hidden code within your website.

To reduce the significant threat from these viruses BirchHosting has been working with a focus group of customers to come up with a solution that protects websites. The solution is to lock FTP when it’s not in use, making it extremely difficult for the hackers to infect your site via this route.

To unlock FTP, customers will simply log into their Bpanel control panel and click one button to unlock FTP for a period of time. FTP will then automatically lock again after the time period has expired.

You will also be able to nominate an IP address that has permanent FTP access, customers FTPing from that IP address will not have to unlock FTP. Nor will you have to unlock FTP if you use the File Manager within the Hosting control panel.

These security measures will ensure that the majority of sites have FTP locked, greatly reducing the risk of having your websites infected.

If you’re a reseller then you may wish to update your welcome emails to reflect the changes, and let your customers know as well. Please remember that this change will go live on the 15th February.
